I adore David Foster Wallace. This comes from a chapter in Infinite Jest where he lists the things things you will learn if "by the virtue of charity or the circumstance of desperation" you come to spend time at a substance-recovery facility.

This is again a great comfort to me, recognising that the stuff I worry about, everyone else probably worries about too. And that although we are each different in our details we are probably all the same in our basic condition.
